An entrance door on a busy commercial property gets used more times in a month than a house door does in a decade. Nothing about that is dramatic, which is why door problems get lived with: the closer that slams, the leaf that drags, the latch you have to lift to engage. Each one is a small annoyance and a growing bill.
Left alone they stop being hardware problems. A door that no longer closes on its own is a security exposure overnight and a fire door that does not do its job. A door that has dropped on its hinges works the frame loose, and replacing a frame costs many times what rehanging a leaf would have.

When a door is reported as broken, the closer is the part that has failed far more often than the lock or the leaf. A worn closer is usually adjustable rather than scrap, and catching it before the door starts slamming saves the frame, the glass and the hinges downstream.
Opening force on an accessible entrance is a number, not an opinion, and a closer wound too tight is the most common way a compliant door quietly stops being compliant. We check the force and set it, rather than tightening until the door shuts firmly.
Door hardware is a world of near-identical parts in incompatible sizes. We identify the closer, the hinge pattern and the backset before the visit wherever you can send a photograph, so the job gets finished the first time.
Common questions
No. Repairing doors and replacing hardware on existing frames is not a licensed contractor trade, so our own technicians do it. Structural alteration of an opening, or a new opening, is a different matter and would be coordinated through a licensed contractor.
Treat it as urgent. A fire door only performs if it closes and latches unaided, and a door that needs a push is not doing that. It is also one of the first things an inspector checks. Most cases are closer adjustment or a strike alignment, so the fix is usually quick.
Usually. Send a photograph of the closer body and the hinge when you report it and we will identify the pattern before we come out. Where an exact match is discontinued we will say so and offer the nearest fit rather than quietly changing the look of the entrance.
Yes, both the hardware and the glazing. Door glass, patch fittings and pivots sit alongside our glass and glazing work, and an emergency board-up secures the opening the same day if the glass has gone.
